Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon Tummy Tuck
By: Tim Neavin, M.D. on August 30, 2010Beverly Hills plastic surgery breast augmentation and tummy tuck specialist Dr. Tim Neavin discusses belly buttons and their role in abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) from a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon perspective in his Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon Tummy Tuck Blog:
I saw a patient in the Beverly Hills plastic surgery office who wanted a tummy tuck, also called abdominoplasty. She was 35 years old and never had children. Although she was overweight and had a rather large belly, she was NOT a good candidate for abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Why was she not a good candidate for tummy tuck? Well, for one, she had no infraumbilical bulge (fatbelow the belly button). These bulges often (not always) develop from gestation (pregnancy). When women are pregnant, the abdominal wall muscles stretch and often do not return to their normal position. The result is laxity if the belly wall, and a ‘pudge’. This is called diastasis. Diastasis is a real indication for abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Abdominoplasty often accompanies the removal of extra skin. In these situations, tummy tuck has a great role! Outty (Outtie?) belly buttons can often be returned to a more inny (innie?) position with abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). So while not every person is a candidate for tummy tuck, there is a particular group of women that are perfect! Understanding the goals and expectations of tummy tuck are key to a good outcome, so make sure you discuss the surgery and recovery with your favorite Beverly Hills plastic surgeon!
