More Men Face Plastic Surgery
In Beverly Hills and beyond, statistics recently released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) demonstrate that more men are undergoing the knife all over the country to enhancece their image. Compared to the prior year, there was an overall increase of 2%. This included face lifts which were up in men 14%, and liposuction, up 7%. This encompasses over 1.1 million elective cosmetic procedures, including injectables such as Botox, Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, Perlane, etc., and invasive surgical operations, ranging anywhere from face lifts and liposuction for men to gynecomastia (male breast development).
Why the upward trend? For one, we may have had a moment where we were coming out of the recession. But perhaps more importantly, cosmetic surgery is becoming more mainstream, and more mainstream and acceptable for men. For instance, I have seen more facial fat grafting in men in their forties, and liposuction of the flanks. In the 50s, men are pursuing facelifts with facial fat grafting. Younger men are more interested in rhinoplasty, chin augmentations, gynecomastia corrections and rhinoplasties. I predict the upward trend will continue in 2012 if the economy improves and men continue to feel more comfortable improving their image outside the gym!
