This woman thought she looked old and wanted a face lift. However, it was unnecessary. Let’s find out why.

To refresh her face, volume is necessary. Thus, fat was grafted into the face. In addition,  her neck was tightened, her brows were raised, and her nose was shaved down.  Often, the aged nose is ignored in facial rejuvenation. It shouldn’t be. Droopy noses look old.  Tilted noses look youthful.

Often, we think of rhinoplasty as a procedure to make someone’s face prettier. We rarely think of rhinoplasty as a procedure to restore youth. As the nose ages, it tends to get larger and drop. And, a dropped nose can bestow a hump-like appearance.

The Youthful Nose & Earlobes

Did you know that the nose and the ears are the two parts of the face that continue to grow with age?  Long earlobes impart an aged appearance to the face. Incidentally, simple earlobe reduction can do wonders for a face. It is easy, can be performed in the office, and there is no downtime.

Young noses are up-turned.  Tilted. On front view, the nostrils are visible. When the nose drops with age, the angle between the nose and upper lip is reduced. This is unattractive, and it can impart an aged look to the face. Tip elevation with a mild hump reduction can rejuvenate the face. That is, rhinoplasty can make one look not just better, but younger.

Youthful Neck

A sharp neckline is the hallmark of youth in the man. For a woman, the shape of the face and its volume distribution is probably the most important characteristics of  youth. As we age, we lose fat in our face, and the skin tends to sag. The face turns from a top heavy face to a bottom heavy one.

Sometimes, lifting the skin (and its underlying tissues) is the best way to restore a well rested look to the face. However, often the volume can simply be redistributed to where it once was, the upper 2/3 of the face. Fat can be taken from an unwanted area like the love handles and injected into the temples and cheeks. This procedure leaves NO VISIBLE SCARS on the face. Fat grafting is one of my favorite operations because it allows the surgeon to reshape the face without terribly invasive methods.
