Breast Augmentation in Santa Barbara & Beverly Hills

Proportionate, natural results by Dr. Tim Neavin

Most breast augmentations start with a question: what cup size do you want? That’s the wrong question. Cup sizes vary across brands and say nothing about how implants will look on your frame. Dr. Neavin starts with your anatomy chest wall width, tissue coverage, skin elasticity — and selects implants that create proportion, not just volume.

Why Measurements Matter More Than Cup Size

The most common mistake in breast augmentation is choosing implants based on how they look in a catalog instead of how they’ll look on your body. An implant that looks perfect on one patient can look overdone on another because their chest wall is narrower, their tissue is thinner, or their skin has less elasticity. That’s how you get the “bolted-on” look — implants that are too wide for the chest or too much volume for the tissue to support.

Dr. Neavin’s “Surgery with Symmetry” philosophy starts with precise measurements: breast base width, chest wall dimensions, tissue thickness, and skin stretch. These numbers determine the implant diameter, projection, and volume that will create a result that looks like it belongs on your body. If your breasts are asymmetric — and most are — he uses different implant sizes for each side to achieve balance rather than placing identical implants and hoping for the best.

The result is augmentation that looks natural from day one and settles into an even more natural position over the following months as the implants drop and the tissue relaxes. People notice you look great. They don’t notice implants.

01

Measurement-Based Sizing

Implant selection based on chest wall width and tissue characteristics — not cup size requests. This is what prevents the overdone look.

02

Asymmetry Correction

Different implant sizes for each side when needed — because most women have natural asymmetry that identical implants make worse.

03

No-Touch Placement

Keller Funnel insertion minimizes handling, reducing capsular contracture risk and promoting faster healing.

“I spent several months looking for a plastic surgeon in the Santa Barbara area for my breast augmentation. I was just so happy that I found Dr. Neavin! So my first visit for my consult was exactly what I was hoping it would be! Dr. Neavin answered all of my questions and also he spent over an hour with me going over different breast implant options and he also gave me his guidance on what would look best on my body. This was important to me because this was my first plastic surgery procedure so I didn't know what to expect. Needless to say ... everything that he suggested ended up being perfect! I don't look overdone and everything looks natural. If you are looking for a plastic surgeon I would highly recommend Dr. Neavin. He's just the best. The results, the consult, from start to finish and he's a tremendous plastic surgeon.”

“I had a breast augmentation about a year ago with Dr. Neavin. He was referred by one of my friends who was referred by one of her friends. I have seen several other plastic surgeons in town before I finally decided to choose Dr. Neavin. He was very down to earth, patiently went through all my options and gave me professional suggestions. The office staff was also fantastic and I felt really comfortable with no pressure at all. I am now so satisfied with my breasts. They definitely look and feel very natural which is exactly how I wanted them to be! I can’t say enough great things about my doctor and his staff and the super cool office. Thank you!!!”

With thousands of completed procedures and 18+ years of experience, Dr. Neavin has seen every version of breast augmentation done wrong — implants too wide for the chest, identical sizes on asymmetric breasts, volume that overwhelms thin tissue. His “Surgery with Symmetry” philosophy was developed specifically to avoid these outcomes.

He measures before he recommends. Chest wall width determines implant diameter. Tissue thickness determines projection. Skin elasticity determines volume limits. When asymmetry exists, he uses different implant sizes on each side rather than compromising with one size that fits neither. Patients try on sizers in a sports bra during consultation to visualize results before committing.

He uses the Keller Funnel for no-touch implant placement, reducing the risk of capsular contracture. And he’s direct about what will look good versus what a patient is asking for — if a requested size will look disproportionate on your frame, he’ll tell you. That honesty is why his results consistently look natural rather than surgical.

What to Know

Recovery

Most patients return to desk work within five to seven days. The first three days involve the most rest and discomfort, managed with prescribed medication. Avoid lifting over five pounds for two weeks and upper body exercise for four to six weeks. Light walking starts immediately. Implants settle into their final position over three to six months — the “drop and fluff” phase where they soften, descend, and take on a more natural shape.

Good Candidates

Women seeking fuller, more proportionate breasts — whether restoring volume lost after pregnancy, correcting asymmetry, or enhancing naturally small breasts. Ideal candidates are at a stable weight, not currently pregnant or breastfeeding, in good overall health, and have realistic expectations about the outcome.

Investment

Breast augmentation with Dr. Neavin typically ranges from $9,000 to $12,000+ depending on implant type (silicone vs. saline), surgical complexity, and whether additional work like a lift is needed. The fee covers surgeon, anesthesia, accredited facility, and all follow-up care. Financing options are available for qualified candidates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my breast augmentation look fake?

Not with Dr. Neavin’s approach. The “bolted-on” look comes from implants that are too wide for the chest wall or too much volume for the tissue to support. Dr. Neavin selects implant diameter based on your chest wall measurements and limits volume to what your tissue can handle. The result looks proportionate from day one.

Silicone or saline — which is better?

About 95% of Dr. Neavin’s patients choose silicone (gummy bear) implants. They feel more like natural breast tissue, rarely ripple, and produce a smoother contour. Saline implants have the advantage of smaller incisions and obvious rupture detection, but they feel firmer and are more prone to visible rippling, especially in thinner patients.

What is “drop and fluff”?

After surgery, implants sit higher on the chest due to muscle tightness and swelling. Over three to six months, the muscle relaxes and the implant descends into a more natural position (the “drop”) while the lower breast tissue expands to accommodate it (the “fluff”). This is why final results look softer and more natural than the immediate post-op appearance.

How do I choose the right size?

Dr. Neavin doesn’t recommend choosing by cup size — cup sizes vary across brands and don’t account for your anatomy. Instead, he takes precise measurements of your breast base width, skin elasticity, and tissue thickness to determine implant dimensions that will look proportional. During consultation, you’ll try on sizers in a sports bra to visualize results before committing.

Can I breastfeed after breast augmentation?

Generally yes. Submuscular placement preserves the breast gland and milk ducts. Most women with implants breastfeed without issues. If future breastfeeding is a priority, mention it during your consultation so Dr. Neavin can factor it into the surgical plan.

What is capsular contracture?

Capsular contracture occurs when scar tissue around the implant tightens excessively, making the breast feel firm and potentially look distorted. It can develop months or years after surgery. Dr. Neavin uses the Keller Funnel for no-touch implant insertion, which significantly reduces this risk by minimizing bacterial contamination during placement.
